SALT LAKE CITY— Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff is considering running for the Senate against incumbent Bob Bennett in 2010.

Shurtleff says he's been thinking about the possibility for a couple of months, and it's now a family decision.

"I thought that I need to, first of all, talk to some advisors, do some field work, do some polling, see what it looks like. I've done all of that," he says.

The issue for him is the economy. Shurtleff tells KSL there hasn't been a lot of truth about how the nation's economy reached the state it is in.

"That's why I'm considering it, because I think I have the talents and abilities to do something different to address the problem in a different way," he explained.

Shurtleff says he likely will make up his mind in the next week or so. He says if he decides to run, he will need time to fundraise against the three-term incumbent.
