2009 is almost here, and that means a number of new laws in Utah are almost ready to go on the books. They cover everything from property taxes to car insurance.
Your car insurance premium most likely will go up. A new law taking effect tomorrow requires higher liability insurance, $50,000 to $65,000, to cover injuries of other people.
If you wait until tomorrow to buy a fuel-efficient car, you'll get up to a $2,500 tax credit.
There also are some changes to property taxes. Assessors must use a computer-assisted mass appraisal system to update property values every year.
And, appointed justice court judges will have to run for retention.
