THE ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY — What's the most impactful gift you ever received? Perhaps it was something huge, like your first car after passing your driver's test as a teenager. Or it might have been smaller and more heartfelt, such as a belt buckle that had belonged to a deceased loved one.
It sounds cliché, but it truly is the thought that counts. There are gifts with almost no worldly value that can brighten your life and become cherished treasures simply because of what they represent.
When I stumbled upon this little video, it reminded me of how important it is to choose gifts thoughtfully.
The woman in the video has moved to an assisted living facility, where she no longer has access to her beloved piano. And as a former piano teacher, she constantly feels that absence. As she says in the video, she even dreams at night about having a piano in her new home.
So what did her family do for her? They brought her a piano that is surely a huge step down from what she had in her home, but it still packed a powerful punch. The woman is brought to tears, expressing, "I just can't believe it. You make me so happy."
I'm grateful to watch this tender little scene. Makes me want to go out and choose the perfect gift for someone who really needs to feel some love.
