SALT LAKE CITY — The motorcyclist who died in a Salt Lake County crash that closed eastbound I-80 for several hours Monday was identified Tuesday.
Utah Highway Patrol officials identified the man as Robert Childress, 54, of Texas.
The crash occurred near 7200 West in Salt Lake City on Monday, according to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cam Roden. Three motorcyclists were traveling together about 9:34 a.m. when Childress "locked up the rear brake on the bike due to slower traffic and laid it down," UHP said in a press release.
He was thrown from the motorcycle, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic reopened Monday on eastbound I-80 as of 1:45 p.m., according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
