HYRUM, Cache County — One man is dead and another was injured after colliding their motorcycles while traveling Blacksmith Fork Canyon on Saturday night.

About 8:30 p.m., a motorcyclist was eastbound and "traveling at a high rate of speed" on state Route 101 when the driver crossed the center line and struck a westbound motorcyclist, according to Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Luis Silva. The motorcyclists struck leg to leg and were thrown from their bikes.

The first motorcyclist, a 26-year-old man, suffered fatal injuries. Officials identified him Tuesday as Luis Salas, of Nibley, Cache County.

The second motorcyclist, a 27-year-old man, sustained injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

The cause of the crash was not identified.
