THE BACKYARD — Imagine you're getting ready to relax by your backyard pond after a long day.
You change out of your work clothes, grab your favorite book, perhaps even make yourself a drink and you're headed out the door when you realize your pool has been commandeered by a family of bears!
This was the scenario caught on a backyard camera at a Los Angeles home.
Escaping the Southern California heat, two bear cubs can be seen playfully splashing around in the pond while their (much larger) mother keeps a watchful eye.
Eventually — and after what appeared to be some destruction to the pond filter (uh oh, cubs) — the mother bear decides it's her turn to cool off, submerging herself in the pond while her cubs continue to play elsewhere.
She looks quite content doing so, too. And who can blame her?
Eventually, the mother gets out and she and her cubs scurry off, perhaps seeking a body of water that can fit all three of them. Beyond the playful nature of the bear cubs, this video shows that even in urban settings, bears will look for creative ways to beat the summer heat.
