PERFECTION — Over more than a decade of being a sports reporter, I've seen more halftime shows than I know what do with.

They range from terrible to truly spectacular — of which, there's few that are actually spectacular. One of the all-time best is Red Panda, and I won't hear any disparaging remarks about her tried and true act that delivers every time.

Every. Time.

Most halftime shows are pointless and bland, but something has to fill the lull in between the action on the field or court, I guess. I would recommend getting some food or drinks, but maybe you want to beat the crowd and remain in your seats. You're paying the price to be there, so do what you want.

But for those who remain in their seats during the halftime break, there's a chance you may see something entertaining and fun.

On Sunday, fans in attendance at the San Jose Earthquakes game (and later on the internet) saw one of their own accomplish an incredible feat that many thought was fake. The Earthquakes PR staff confirmed it was real, however.

The fan was tasked with kicking a ball from the 18-yard line to the center field mark where teams kickoff in a game dubbed "Bocce Soccer." Four fans were given a kick, with the closest to the mark winning a prize. The first three fans' attempts weren't particularly close, but the fourth looked like he did it for a living.

With ease and grace behind his kick, the fan placed the ball perfectly on the spot to win the prize.

I approve of this halftime contest, though most of these attempts go terribly wrong and wind up being some of the bad halftime performances I talked about it. But every once in a while, we're treated to greatness.

With that being said, I'd love to see Alabama football coach Nick Saban take part in a halftime VR boxing competition, like a recent video that went viral of him taking part in the action. Maybe instead of overtime, the two coaches can "box" it out with their VR headsets. I'm just saying, NCAA.
