SPANISH FORK — A fatal accident Friday afternoon resulted in major traffic delays and highway closures in Spanish Fork Canyon.
Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon, who was stuck in the traffic, told KSL NewsRadio that at least one person died in the crash.
Following the accident, eastbound U.S. 6 was closed at U.S. 89 in Spanish Fork and westbound near Diamond Fork. The Utah Department of Transportation advised drivers to expect major delays or use an alternate route.
However, the department announced that both directions of U.S. 6 were reopened around 6 p.m. and that traffic had returned to normal by 6:30 p.m.
Cleared: Both directions of US-6 remain open at MP 180, Diamond Fork area. Congestion in the area has cleared and traffic flow has returned to normal.
