MIDVALE — A 45-year-old man is in extremely critical condition after being hit while in a crosswalk Tuesday morning.

The incident happened about 7:40 a.m. near 180 W. 7200 South. A man was crossing the street in a crosswalk when a truck in the center lane ran the red light, according to witnesses, and struck the pedestrian, Unified police stated.

Only one lane of eastbound traffic is open in that area. The road is not expected to fully open until about 10:30 a.m.

Investigators do not suspect impairment on the part of the driver, but believe the sun may have played a factor. The truck driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with police.
