TERRA, Tooele County — A Dugway man who allegedly told police he wants to be like Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh faces numerous charges accusing him of firing several rounds at a woman and her boyfriend.
Andie Jacob Adamson, 36, was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; two counts of assault on a police officer and criminal mischief, second-degree felonies; two counts of aggravated assault, four counts of discharge of a firearm, and assault against an officer, all third-degree felonies.
On Sept. 3, Tooele County sheriff's deputies were called to the area of state Route 199 and First Street on a report of a man with a gun. Deputies were told by a woman that Adamson was about 75 yards away from her in a field and had "a handgun and a spotting scope. Adamson was looking at the woman and her boyfriend through the spotting scope," a police booking affidavit states.
Police said the couple hid behind a trailer as Adamson yelled at them and fired three rounds. He then yelled some more, fired another round and ran away into the field, the charges state.
Deputies, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper and the Department of Public Safety helicopter responded to the area looking for Adamson. Adamson, according to the affidavit, came out of a home near 40 N. Valley View Street and pointed a gun at officers.
"Several commands were given to Andie to give up peacefully and he continued to yell obscenities," the court documents state. "A robot was used to monitor Andie's movements so officers could stay behind cover. At one point, Andie exited the residence, and began throwing sticks and a tire at the robot. Andie grabbed the robot and went back inside. Once inside, Andie threw the robot down into a cellar with water. Andie caused thousands of dollars of damage to the robot."
Adamson eventually surrendered following a standoff and was taken into custody, police say.
While being transported to jail, Adamson stated that "he will ambush cops and that he wanted to be like Timothy McVeigh. Andie stated next time he will make sure there are (explosives). Once at the jail, Andie stated he will not be there forever, and he will see me on the outside. Andie then fired a finger gun at me," the arresting officer wrote in the affidavit.
Officers noted they have been called to deal with Adamson numerous times and he has a history of running from police.
