GUNNISON — Utah corrections officials say an inmate whose death at the state prison in Gunnison is being investigated as a possible homicide was a registered sex offender who had been incarcerated for nearly 20 years.
Dale Lee Rush, 66, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Central Utah Correctional Facility on Monday.
"Following a medical evaluation, Rush was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The death is being investigated as a possible homicide," the Utah Department said in a brief prepared statement.
The case is being investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation. No one has been arrested or charged in the death as of Tuesday. How Rush died has not been released.
Rush had been incarcerated since 2001 for convictions of sodomy on a child, rape of a child and sexual abuse of a child and was serving up to life in prison, according to court records.
