HEBER CITY — The family and friends of three women who died Monday in a fiery crash in Heber City were left to mourn their loved ones.
Two of the victims, Payton Caldwell and Emma Call, were recent Wasatch High School graduates, and friends and family gathered earlier this week to remember them.
"They were just so happy," Tiffany Hall, a friend of both girls, told KSL TV. "Everyone knew Emma and Payton, the whole school. They're the kind of people you just love them no matter what."
Both women ran track and Caldwell also played basketball and volleyball.
Hall remembered Caldwell as someone everyone wanted to be friends with. "She walks into the room and she smiles and she's just contagious."
Friend Madelyn Farrell said she can't recall Call ever being sad. "She was just the sweetest person. She was just like full of energy and excitement."
"I know they're in a better place. It's hard for me right now to understand that concept," Hall said. "I know she's happy."
The crash occurred Monday when a Jeep Wrangler slowed suddenly and was hit from behind on U.S. 189, causing the Jeep to catch on fire. Caldwell and Call then T-boned the Jeep, and their vehicle also went up in flames, according to investigators. The Jeep driver, Amy Nelson, also died in the crash.
Nelson left behind a husband and daughter and was known for her adventurous personality and compassion.
"We just lost something so special. There will never be another Amy, and I think that is what is hard is imagining going forward without her," Angela Hubbard, Amy's sister-in-law, told KSL TV.
Nelson's family hopes others can live to the fullest in her honor.
"That's our wish is that everyone can love like Amy and spread a little love throughout the world," Hubbard said.
