TROPIC, Garfield County — A driver was arrested Tuesday after police say he passed cars that were stopped due to construction on the road, then hit two members of the road work crew.
A 62-year-old man driving a Cadillac SUV was pulled over on state Route 12 by a Utah Highway Patrol trooper after the incident.
The driver "admitted to passing all the stopped cars and going to the front of the construction zone without authorization and later proceeding past a flagger's stop sign and continuing east. He denied hitting anyone, but two workers said he nudged them with the mirror and front bumper," according to a police affidavit.
Troopers say several other workers witnessed the vehicle bumping the flaggers.
The driver failed field sobriety tests, and troopers found five marijuana plants and drug paraphernalia in the SUV, the affidavit states.
Michael J. Reese was booked into the Garfield County Jail for investigation of producing or dispensing a controlled substance, marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI and reckless endangerment.
