DAD'S WORLD — A dad's job is an interesting one. There a lot of standards we need to live up to.

There are terrible jokes that we need to have ready at the drop of the hat. We need to be wildly protective of our daughters; and if a boy ever honks for her to come out or texts to let her know he's "here," we need to make sure that she's not leaving the house. And if our sons honk or text for a girl to come out, you must guilt him by letting him know you have failed as a father.

We also have the big job of handing out punishment in the form of embarrassment. Or, just embarrass for the fun of it.

That's what the dad in this video did, and he has all of my respect.

This dad dressed up in the costume from the Will Ferrell classic "Elf" and met his daughter outside of her school. "Met" is an understatement considering he screamed, "I know her!" and then ran up to her and started singing.

This dad went full Buddy the Elf on his daughter, and it's pure magic.

The teen is terrified, but she also can't help but love it. Sure, all of her friends will likely think her dad is "weird" and would "die" if their dad did that, but who cares? Your father loves you and doesn't care who knows.

To all those teens out there worried their dad might do this, I need to let you in on a secret: We fathers have no shame left. We've been through the wringer and we've got you. Our lives are pretty great, and so making a fool of ourselves just to get a smile out of you is well worth it. We want the world to know we love you and we'll sing it at the top of our lungs in tights and pointy shoes in front of your entire school body.

A hat tip to you, Buddy the Elf Dad, and to all you dads out there. Keep embarrassing your kids and never be afraid to let them know you love them.
