NORFOLK — The coronavirus has affected millions around the globe, with health care workers among some of the most frequently infected.
In the early weeks of pandemic’s spread, many frontline workers risked exposing their families to the virus and chose to voluntarily separate from them. Among them was Suzie Vaughan, a 43-year-old National Health Service employee from Norfolk, England.
For nine weeks, Vaughan could not see her children in person as she worked to help COVID-19 patients in the ICU, the Independent reports.
But when 9-year-old Bella and 7-year-old Hettie finally reunite with their mother, the video is the most heartwarming thing you can imagine.
Vaughan walks quietly as she sneaks up behind her kids, crouching down behind them as they watch a movie and setting her head between them. For several seconds, the ruse goes unnoticed to all except one of the family's dogs, and then the kids see her.
“MUMMY!” The excited scream is met with an eruption of laughter from Vaughan that can only be described as overwhelmingly wholesome. The hugs, the tears, the dogs scrabbling for attention, and the kisses on cheeks that follow are all perfect.
It’s easy to feel a sense of loss amid the pandemic, with major life changes and a sense of uncertainty. But this video is an excellent reminder that even in such uncertain moments of history, the things we lose are not always gone forever.
