PROVO — Search and rescue teams recovered the body of a 21-year-old West Valley City man who submerged at the Olmstead Diversion Dam in the Provo River.

The man was identified as Albert John, "AJ", Mapa. The young man had recently finished a mission in Tonga, according to Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon. Mapa's body was found about 8:50 p.m. about 35 feet down river from where he was last seen, officials said.

The body of the victim in the drowning was found about 35’ down river from where he was last seen as he went under the water. Rescuers in an Achilles rubber boat located him and brought him to shore. @UCSOpic.twitter.com/se6MAaKl8u

Earlier in the evening, Cannon tweeted that several agencies responded to reports of a man who went underwater about 5:40 p.m. Saturday evening.
