KANAB, Kane County — An Arizona man died Wednesday after crashing his UTV at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, authorities said.
Mark Lynn Allred, 46, died after crashing his vehicle about 9:25 p.m. at the park, which is near the Utah-Arizona border in Kane County, according to an emailed statement from Utah State Parks officials.
Allred, who is from Cottonwood, Arizona, was riding at the northern end of the sand dunes when the crash took place, according to the statement. Witnesses nearby performed CPR, and park rangers and Kane County Sheriff’s deputies responded, but Allred was declared dead at the scene, officials said.
Allred was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to officials.
There was one passenger in the UTV who was transported for a medical evaluation, officials added. Officials did not provide the identity of that person or elaborate on the nature of their injuries.
The UTV Allred was driving was the only vehicle involved. Authorities do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, officials added. The incident is still under investigation.
“The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation extends our condolences to the family and friends impacted by this incident,” the statement said.
