SALT LAKE CITY — Police searched for a group of people in connection with a robbery and stabbing in Midvale early Wednesday morning.

Three adults said they were walking near 174 West and 8200 South about 1:40 a.m. when five or six men wearing dark clothing approached them on foot and assaulted them, according to Unified Police Lt. Paul Barker.

One of the three adults was stabbed in the back with an unknown object. Police did not know how deep the stab wound was because they could not find a weapon at the scene, but the person was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition, Barker said.

That person has since been released from the hospital, according to Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray.

The two other victims were punched and kicked but did not require medical attention, Barker said.

The attackers also stole a backpack, wallet, cash and a cell phone.

Police tried to track the stolen cellphone but efforts had been unsuccessful.
