Editor's note: Charges against Kerry Maw were dismissed without prejudice on June 27, 2019.OGDEN — A man suspected of robbing a Wells Fargo bank on Tuesday was arrested later that day after a police chief from a nearby agency recognized him from an image shared online, according to a police affidavit.
Kerry Jason Maw, 48, was arrested late Tuesday and booked into Weber County Jail on suspicion of robbery. Court records show his last listed address in Ogden.
Police responded to a report of a robbery at the Wells Fargo bank located at 4301 Harrison Blvd. about noon on Tuesday. The man passed a note to a teller that said: “This is a bank robbery. Give me all your loose 100’s.” The teller complied, handing the man about $5,400 in cash, according to an affidavit filed in 2nd District Court.
Police said the man fled the bank and left in a forest green Dodge pickup truck that was last seen traveling south on Harrison Boulevard.
About 8:30 p.m., Ogden police received a tip from Harrisville Police Chief Max Jackson, who said he saw a photo of the man posted on social media by Ogden police and believed it was Maw, the affidavit stated. Police then searched Maw’s Facebook page and noticed a photo there matched the description of the man on bank surveillance footage, the affidavit continued.
Police attempted to contact Maw and got in contact with his ex-wife, who was then shown the surveillance footage photos and identified the man as Maw, the report said. Detectives located and arrested Maw about 11 p.m. Tuesday, police added.
Court records show Maw has no major previous criminal history in Utah.
