(KSL News) -- A fire shut down the control tower at Salt Lake International Airport for a while this afternoon. It all started with a leak in the sprinkler system.
Roy Williams, Exec. Dir. Salt Lake City Dept. of Airports: "The building has a water suppression, fire suppression system. It had built up some pressure, leaked some water that got into an electrical panel that controls the elevator."
There were some sparks and smoke so the tower and a few surrounding buildings were evacuated for a while. Airport officials say they didn't know of any flights having to be diverted; mostly some planes had to circle in the air, waiting to land, or stay grounded.
