SPANISH FORK — Spanish Fork Junior High School was briefly placed on lockout Thursday due to a rumor of a weapon on campus, officials said.

In a statement, Matt Christensen, the school's principal, said officials contacted police when they learned of the rumor. Officers then responded to the school, located at 600 S. 820 East.

"Police responded quickly and the individuals involved were investigated and the school was searched and found safe," Christensen wrote. "There was no validity to the rumor. As a precautionary measure, the school issued a lockout while police conducted the investigation."

The school first posted on social media about the lockout about 12:30 p.m. It meant people weren't allowed to enter the building. The lockout was lifted at 1 p.m., according to Christensen.

He added that police will be at the school the rest of the day to help students feel safe.

Someone believed to be connected with the threat was detained and was being questioned by police, Nebo School District spokeswoman Lana Hiskey added.
