PROVO — A preliminary hearing for a man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend in the face was continued.
Andrew Holloway, 33, of South Jordan, was charged Jan. 17 with attempted aggravated murder and aggravated burglary, both first-degree felonies; and violating a protective order, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a deadly weapon with intent to assault, all class A misdemeanors.
On Jan. 14, about 6 a.m., Holloway kicked open the door of a Springville man who is now dating Holloway's ex-girlfriend, according to charging documents. The man, who was sleeping, got up to see what was happening. The ex-girlfriend was also in the room, the charges state.
As the man got to his bedroom door, "Holloway pushed it open and began stabbing and slashing the victim," the charges state.
The man suffered "several stab and slash wounds to his face and head, including a deep laceration across the nose, and a stab wound to the chest," court documents state. "He was transported to the hospital where he received many stitches and staples to close his wounds."
Holloway fled to a friend's apartment in Midvale where Unified police officers found his vehicle near 220 West and 8200 South.
"Through the window of the vehicle in plain sight, officers observed blood on the steering column," according to two search warrants unsealed over the weekend.
Investigators next found blood on an entryway, a door and a window across the street from where Holloway's car was found, the charges state. A SWAT team was called and surrounded the residence. Holloway was taken into custody several hours later with help from a police K-9.

He called or sent text messages to the woman at least 15 times starting just after 4:30 a.m. on the day of the stabbing, according to court records, and continued trying to contact her after the incident, according to charging documents. Among other statements, Holloway said "he was going to kill himself or commit suicide by cop," the charges state.
Investigators noted in the charging documents that Holloway "has an extensive criminal history"
A preliminary hearing scheduled for late last week was continued until March 8.
