SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah Episcopal Bishop Carolyn Tanner Irish's father was the first to receive the highest award of the Utah Humanities Council.
That was in 1988. Now it's his daughter's turn.
The Humanities Council is honoring Irish with its Governor's Award for the Humanities for a lifetime devoted to scholarship, religion and philosophy.
With degrees from Oxford University and other schools, Irish in 1996 became the fourth woman to hold the office of bishop in the Episcopal Church.
She's a daughter of Obert C. Tanner, who was a professor of philosophy at the University of Utah.
The Humanities Council planned to honor Irish with an inscribed glass disk at a Saturday reception at the Rose Wagner Center for the Performing Arts in Salt Lake City.
