THE WALL — Unless you were living under a rock in the early 2000s (or you weren’t born yet), you know exactly what a Big Mouth Billy Bass is.
If you have no clue what I’m talking about, all you need to know is that it’s a fake mounted fish with a motion sensor that starts wiggling and singing a song when you walk by. Any yes, it was and is completely obnoxious.
Yet it somehow weaseled its way into the hearts of Americans at large. Even those of us who hate the weird niche toy have a begrudging tolerance and even respect for the dumb thing. It’s probably because the toy is like an ongoing and really bad dad joke. And who doesn’t love a cheesy dad joke? People who are dead inside, that’s who.
Our everyday technology has moved way beyond the Big Mouth Billy Bass, and we don’t need motion sensors when we have voice command in our cars, phones, and Bluetooth speakers. In light of that, some clever lad, who clearly likes bad jokes, decided to transform Big Mouth Billy Bass into a voice command receptor for all lovers of dad jokes.
The scaly toy was connected to Amazon’s latest voice-command speaker, Alexa, and as you will see in the video, is excellent at telling you the weather in a slightly creepy yet vastly entertaining way.
You’re welcome, all lovers of dad jokes.
