OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Ogden's school board has passed a resolution calling on state lawmakers to rescind requirements for local districts to fund charter schools.
Instead, the board wants legislators to impose a statewide tax system to fund the schools. The resolution says the system imposed by a new state law places a burden on local districts.
Ogden School Board President Don Belnap says the district had to impose a small tax increase to make up the extra $132,000 it needed to cover charter school funding. The amount of funding is based on the number of district students who attend a charter school, regardless of its location.
Other districts have taken similar action. At least three districts, Alpine, Provo and Davis, say they're considering a similar resolution.
