SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Provo man accused of trying to bring a small homemade explosive device into a federal building in Salt Lake City has agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors.
Court records show Brandon Bushnell pleaded guilty Tuesday to a misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of an explosive in a federal building. He's expected to be sentenced to probation on Nov. 30 under the terms of the deal
Prosecutors say Bushnell had a device known as a cricket bomb in his pocket when he arrived for a Social Security Administration hearing last November. The building was evacuated after a security guard found it. No one was hurt.
Defense attorney Stephen McCaughey says Bushnell forgot he had the small device in his pocket and didn't mean to cause any harm.
