It's been a whirlwind since we arrived, but it's clear the Chinese people are behind this effort one billion percent, and it was obvious from the moment we stepped off the plane.

I've been inside the Beijing National Stadium, which has been dubbed "The Bird's Nest," and it's immense. Workers are busy preparing for Friday's opening ceremonies, which can be seen exclusively on KSL 5.

Olympic first impressions

After months of anticipation, the Beijing Olympic games are just about upon us. When we arrived here a couple of days ago, the first order of business was to climb the Great Wall. Too bad on the day we went the smog rolled in.

What an experience that was. It's just too bad we didn't go today, which was one of the clearest days they've seen here in Beijing in weeks.

We're right in the middle of a grand square, over my shoulder is the Bird's Nest, but we also have a great view of the world famous water cube, where the USA's Michael Phelps will attempt to break Mark Spitz's all-time Olympic record of seven gold medals. He has his eyes set on eight.

Back at the Bird's Nest is where they're going to hold opening ceremonies Friday night. Tonight there's a huge dress rehearsal for that. This show is serious business for China. Thousands came to dress rehearsal. We don't know what is happening inside, yet, but you can bet Beijing's opening ceremonies will pack a punch.
