BOX ELDER COUNTY — A man was killed after an accident in Box Elder County involving his 10-wheel dump truck Friday night, police said.
Around 10 p.m. Friday, a man identified as Jason Hale, 37, of Oakley, Idaho, was traveling toward the city of Lynn on Cotton Thomas Rd. in a 1989 Freightliner 10-wheel dump truck when he was involved in a crash, according to Chief Deputy Dale Ward of Box Elder County Sheriff's Office. Hale was transported to a hospital in Oakley, where he was pronounced dead, Ward said.
The cause of the crash has not been officially confirmed, but Hale's brother, David, stated he believed the truck's brakes failed due to high speed, Ward said. David Hale was following along behind his brother in a personal vehicle at the time of the accident, according to Ward.
The dump truck was being used as a part of a rock quarry business called American Stone, Ward said, and appeared to have been loaded to capacity. Investigation of the incident will continue through multiple agencies.
