ECHO, Summit County — If you didn't see the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, don't worry, we've got you covered.

South Ogden resident Kasey LaRose captured the astronomical event on the first of its two peak days and made a time lapse video for our enjoyment and delight. LaRose, who owns a video production company called Circa3, said he likes to film things he hasn't captured before.

He shot video of the event overnight in Echo — about 45 miles southeast of Ogden — from 12:30 to 5 a.m. He said had trouble keeping warm, because it was colder than he expected, but he toughed it out because he didn't want to miss "such a spectacular show."

Ultimately, LaRose was happy with the final product of his efforts, as he should be. The meteor shower is captured beautifully, showing a spinning sky while bright meteors streak past.

In fact, the Perseid meteor shower is known for its "fireballs," which are "larger explosions of light and color that can persist longer than an average meteor streak," according to NASA's forecast page.

The Perseids show will have its second and final peak viewing overnight Thursday, with an estimated 100 meteors per hour. However, the meteor shower ends on Aug. 24.

"Look towards the familiar constellations Cassiopeia and Perseus in the northeast," the NASA forecast page advises. "(The Perseids) rise soon after sunset, but you'll want to wait until they are higher in the sky to see the most meteors."
