SALT LAKE CITY — The spring turkey hunt begins in May and the Division of Wildlife Resources is offering classes to help hunters bag that big tom.
DWR has joined with several organizations, including the National Wild Turkey Federation and Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife, to offer five seminars this spring, according to a DWR news release. The classes will be located throughout Utah and will run from March 19 to April 18.
DWR wildlife recreation coordinator Gary Cook said whether you are a veteran or a beginner, attending a seminar is a great way to prepare for Utah’s general statewide turkey hunt.
“A lot of hunters want to hunt turkeys, but they’re not sure how to get started,” Cook said in the news release. “You can change that by attending a seminar. You’ll receive all of the basic information you need to feel confident enough to go afield and have a good experience. Even experienced hunters should learn a thing or two.”
Here are the seminars that will be hosted by DWR across the Utah:
Price
This seminar will be held March 19 from 7-9 p.m. at DWR’s Southeastern Region Office at 319 N. Carbonville Rd.
Hyrum
The “Spring Strut” class will be held March 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held at the Hardware Ranch Wildlife Management Area, 18 miles east of Hyrum. In addition to a turkey hunting seminar, you can learn how to fly fish and how to pack a horse at two additional seminars that day.
Participants are also encouraged to bring a shotgun and some shells and DWR officials will help you pattern your gun. Turkey hunting gear from Sportsman’s Warehouse will also be available to see.
Lehi
The Lehi seminar will be held March 24 at 7-9 p.m. at Cabela’s at 2502 Cabela’s Blvd.
Vernal
The Vernal seminar will be held April 2. Details about the time and location will be released on the DWR website.
Cedar City
The Cedar City seminar will be held April 18 at the Parowan Front Wildlife Management Area, 15 minutes north of Cedar City. Details about the time will be released on the DWR website.
