MIDDLE EARTH — We’ve come to expect professional and quick safety demonstrations before takeoff, but Air New Zealand may have created the cleverest safety video with the most Hobbit references.
The video, posted last week, starts out with a couple of “Lord of the Rings” fans rushing onto an Air New Zealand flight. From there, Elijah Wood and Peter Jackson make appearances in the video that takes fliers through Middle Earth and safety procedures.
Admittedly, this 4½-minute video doesn’t come close to the detail of Jackson’s original films, or have the ever-handsome Aragorn and Legolas, but they did sneak in a flying eagle, shots of Rivendell and Hobbit-sized life jackets for one tiny Frodo.
And here’s where someone should issue an apology in advance to all the future airline attendants who try to catch the remaining bit of attention fliers may have had before this video (though, Delta isn’t doing too terribly in this regard with its cheerful redheaded actress).
