Lightning hits house, starts fire

OGDEN, Utah (AP) - Lightning struck the wooden turret atop a two-story house near Ogden and caused a fire in an upstairs room.

Weber Fire District Capt. Tom Sexton says the strike to the Victorian-style house on Saturday night caused a small fire that spread into the upstairs room.

He says firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze from inside, and the fire caused between $15,000 and $20,000 in damage.

The owner of the home, Terry Greenman, says he was downstairs when he heard what "sounded like a bomb going off."

Sexton says the house in the Uintah Highland area south of Ogden is only about 10 years old and there was no damage to the rest of it.

No injuries were reported.
