(KSL News) Salt Lake City's Department of Airports has snatched up some new land. That could mean an expansion of Salt Lake's International Airport.

The Deseret Morning News is reporting the department paid more than $30 million cash for 352 acres.

Airport officials say the purchase is to preserve the airport's buffer zone and not to expand. But according to the Salt Lake City mayor's office, the airport is already developing an expansion proposal.

Some of the speculated changes that could be on the way are a new runway, new terminals or extra parking.
