SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake man who allegedly carried a knife onto an airplane and threatened a passenger and FBI agents pleaded not guilty Thursday in federal court.

A grand jury indicted David Alan Anderson, 60, with having a dangerous weapon on an aircraft and two counts of intimidation against a federal law officer by threat of murder. U.S. District Magistrate Judge Paul M. Warner set a trial date for Dec. 5.

Before takeoff on a Delta Air Lines flight Sept. 18, Anderson argued with a passenger over the armrest and leg space and threatened to slit his throat. Flight attendants called police, who found a folding knife with a 3-inch blade in his carry-on bag, according to court documents.

Anderson, a retired attorney, then threatened to kill the FBI agents who took him into custody, court records state.

In court last week, Anderson said wasn't able to fill his prescription for anxiety medication before boarding the flight.
