SALT LAKE CITY — Elementary school children from throughout Utah are being encouraged to register for participation in the 24th Annual Arbor Day Poster Contest.
The theme this year is "Trees are Terrific - Where you Live and Play!"

Last year, 134 schools submitted more than 550 entries. The winning school in each of the state's three regions will get a tree to plant and a $500 award. Other prizes will be awarded to artists in the statewide and regional category.
Hosted by the state Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, the annual contest promotes the planting of trees in communities throughout the state. This year, the Utah Society for Environmental Education has identified specific activities that link the poster contest to the state's core curriculum.
The deadline for registration this year is Feb. 15, with entries being accepted until March 23.
