(KSL News) -- Some residents in Salt Lake City and Davis county are without power.

About 100 residents of north Salt Lake and Woods Cross lost power this morning as a construction project hit an underground power line.

Downtown Salt Lake residents and businesses are also in the dark this hour.

A garbage truck ran into a power pole at 9th East and 4th south. The accident damaged other cars in the area, near a TRAX park-n-ride.

Right now, its effecting 1400 customers in the area.

Utah power has to replace the power pole, and says power could be out for up to eight hours.

While the power is out now in parts of Salt Lake, this morning a power outage caused morning traffic to come to a grinding halt in Murray.

The power went out for two-thirds of the city: 16,000 customers without lights.

The Murray Power substation on 4800 South had an equipment malfunction. The outage caused traffic lights to go out from 4100 South to 6500 South and from 900 East to the Jordan River.

What caused the outage is still unclear but the lights were back on within an hour.
