SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- It's ribbon cutting day for the new Salt Lake County Public Works Administration building.
On Wednesday, county officials will open the doors to the new building with a celebratory ceremony.
The building is home to the county's sanitation, fleet operations, flood control and operations department offices. It's also designed to function as a backup emergency operations center during a disaster.
The facility is reinforced for seismic stability and replaces a 1950s-era building that was in disrepair.
The public works building was also built to meet U.S. Green Building Council certification standards for environmental efficiencies.
County Mayor Peter Corroon says the new facility provides a safe environment for employees and citizens.
