SALT LAKE CITY — A storm forecasted to roll in early Friday morning is a good reminder for all of us to get winter ready.

Every year we hear the warning: Get out those emergency kits before the storm hits. But I'd say the majority of us don't even own one.

Thursday night KSL news met David Luna: a successful guy living on his own. But does the freedom of bachelorhood that make him more winter ready than anyone else?

"Basically, I just have flashlights and some extra food; not much," he said. "I might be in trouble."

No worries. We brought in an expert to help him out.

Rocky Mountain Power spokeswoman Margaret Oler came armed with several questions that every Utahn should ask themselves:

  • Do you have an emergency kit?
  • Do you have a flashlight and fresh batteries?
  • Do you have cans of non-perishable food?
  • Do you have a stored supply of water?

Our friend Dave couldn't give a solid "yes" to most of these questions, but at least he did have the canned food. His plan for Friday morning: "Start shopping," he said.

KSL News also wanted to hear from you, so we posted the question on the KSL TV Facebook page. Most of you replied with, "Nope. Not ready!" Many said their main setback was a need for winter tires.
