SALT LAKE CITY — Halloween is just days away and I know the majority of you have a party you're supposed to get to and have no idea what you're going to wear.

Well, here are five easy ideas that will be a hit with your friends as long as they're in they're 20's, 30's or 40's. If you're headed to a party where teenagers are present, they will just think you look insane.

So, here are five movie-related Halloween costumes people under 17 won't understand.

Bernie (Weekend at Bernie's)

Materials Needed: Turquoise Jacket; Roud-80's Style Sunglasses; Solid Mustache; Mischievous Smirk.

Cost: Under $10

Walk into a party in some killer 80's beach attire while sporting a clean mustache, sunglasses and slightly hunched over and all the adults in the room will let out a hearty laugh. Most of the teenagers, however, will roll their eyes and mumble, "Our parents are so weird."

Michael (The Lost Boys)

Materials Needed: Killer shades; Leather Jacket; Permed Mullet; Bad-ittude

Cost: If you own a leather jacket, under $5, if you don't borrow one and under $5

If you're dressed as Michael from "The Lost Boys" you will impress your friends, especially the ladies, and draw uncontrollable laughter from the younger folk. So this costume is kind of a double-edged sword.

John Bender (The Breakfast Club)

Materials Needed: Levi Jacket; Flannel Shirt; Thermal Undershirt; Leather Boots; Fingerless-Leather Gloves; Red Bandana

Cost: $15 +, you'll need at least a small budget for your trip to the thrift store for this one.

John Bender was an 80's icon and no one was cooler than him. Today he would be mocked mercilessly at any high school in America.

Burst into the party as Bender and immediately throw your fist in the air and the place will erupt. Your peers will cheer and clap and their children will be yelling "Nerd!"

Martin Riggs (Lethal Weapon)

Materials Needed: Red Button-Up Shirt; Tight Blue Jeans; Toy Gun; Poofy Mullet

Cost: Under $5, along with a tiny bit of your pride.

Show up to the party in dramatic fashion dressed as Riggs and people will be delighted, intimidated and impressed all at once. Every dude born before 1983 will be jealous of you and every girl born at the same time will wish they'd shown up with you.

All the young guns at the party, however, will think you're creepy because you keep flashing crazy-eyes and talking about the wicked-cool trailer you live in with your dog.

Marty McFly (Back to the Future)

Materials Needed: Levi Jacket; Poofy Red Vest; Blue Jeans; Nike Running Shoes; Walk Man; Casio Calculator Watch

Cost: Around $15, and a whole lot of your spare time tracking this stuff down at your parents house and the thrift store.

Stroll into any party decked out as the one and only Marty McFly and heads will turn. Every child of the 80's will stare in silence as you walk by and think to themselves, "Man, that guy is awesome" as they look outside to see if you actually rolled up in a DeLorean.

All the young bucks will likely look at you in reverence because of the acclaim you just received from their parents and in an effort o look cool pretend to know exactly who you are. They'll be doing all of this as they scramble for their smart phones to Google your costume.

While some of the greenhorns at your Halloween party may ridicule you for your costume choice their parents will be proud of you. And not only that, you will feel like a million bucks for pulling off an awesome costume and saving some cash.

What other throw-back-movie-related costumes would you add to the list? Have I offended everyone under the age of 17 for suggesting you wouldn't know these costumes? Did you actually know what movies these characters were from? Let us know on the comment boards, Facebook or send me an email.
