SPRINGVILLE, Utah (AP) - Workers have discovered a human skull during excavation at a new park in Springville.

The workers found the skull Thursday while they were bringing in and moving dirt for a soccer field at the park.

Provo's Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/110MgGq ) Springville police and a state forensic physical anthropologist were notified after the discovery.

Police Lt. Dave Caron says an examination by the anthropologist leads to their belief that the skull is very old and possibly that of an American Indian.

A similar situation arose in Springville about seven years ago when a resident brought fill dirt to his yard. A skull and ribs found in the dirt were determined to be that of an Anasazi Indian.

Police are unsure whether the latest skull was in dirt at the park or was brought in with fill dirt.
