THE LAST WEEK OF THE TERM —Once upon a time, I was a teacher — but not the type who had to deal with emails from students who had missing assignments. Ah, one of the many joys of teaching elementary school. But, once upon a time, my husband was a teacher who dealt with end-of-term emails from students.

Needless to say, I LOL'ed when I saw the video from a junior high school teacher, Mr. Capps, who turned his students' emails into an emo song to make light of the time of the year that causes teachers way too much stress.

"how can i bump up my grade in history," one student wrote. Notice the missing capital letter at the start of the sentence, as well as the missing question mark at the end.

"I have a lot of missing assignments in your class, and I just wanted to say I have completed two of them," another wrote.

My personal favorite was when a student said his mom was mad about all the missing assignments. Because, as a mom of several children who are ending the term, I am one of those parents who is saying, "Email your teachers! It's the end of the term! Get your missing assignments in!"

To Mr. Capps and all teachers who are ending the term, thank you for hanging in there with these kids who have somehow learned that a due date is as flexible as a rubber band. Also, I'm so glad that I was an adult before emo music made its early-2000s appearance because I'm not sure my brain cells would have survived the blow.
