LONDON (AP) — High-stepping musical "Kinky Boots" is set to strut its stuff in London.

The story of a struggling English shoe company that reinvents itself making fabulous footwear for drag queens, the show by songwriter Cyndi Lauper and playwright Harvey Fierstein won six Tony Awards in 2013 for its Broadway run.

A new production is scheduled to open at London's Adelphi Theatre on Sept. 15.

Inspired by a true story, the musical is based on a 2005 British movie that starred future Oscar winner Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Director-choreographer Jerry Mitchell said Friday he was "delighted to see this big-spirited musical arrive in London."

Casting details have not been announced.
