SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Senate has unanimously confirmed the nomination of 3rd District Judge Stephen Roth to sit on Utah's Court of Appeals.

Roth served in the 3rd District for eight years before being promoted Thursday.

He described the 3rd District bench as challenging but rewarding and says he's looking forward to his new position.

Roth was nominated in August along with six others to replace retired Court of Appeals Judge Judith Billings.

Attorney and state Sen. Steve Urquhart said he was struck by the legal skills and civility he witnessed from Roth during a case 12 years ago.
