BOUNTIFUL -- A Bountiful teenager is getting a lot of attention for a video he made about parkour.
Jared Fadel won a national PTA award for the short film, which can be seen on YouTube.
"The video, I wanted to portray as a deeper insight into free runners, to portray that we know what we are doing," Fadel says.
He practices parkour, or free running, which can involve jumping off of buildings, running up walls and flipping off of objects. He made his video about it for last year's PTA Reflections contest, and it won a national award.
"The theme for the PTA Reflections contest last year was ‘Wow,' so I figured that this video -- I mean, parkour is so new to people, I figured this would probably wow them, because it wowed me," Fadel says. The parkour not only wowed the judges, Fadel's filmmaking did as well. He has found a passion for it now, filming all sorts of things, even weddings.Fadel wants to go to film school when he's done taking his generals at Salt Lake Community College.
When KSL asked him what advice he would give students currently entering this year's Reflections contest, or thinking about creating something of their own, Fadel says don't hold back.
"Whatever comes to your mind, just write it down and go with it," he says. "You may get one small impression, but it may lead up to success. That's what happened to my video. It won a national award and it started with one thought."
