SALT LAKE COUNTY -- Teenagers often get a bad rap for being self-involved, but many young people are great examples.

We received a High 5 nomination from a woman praising the efforts of Cottonwood High School football player Kyle Aberton. He helped raise nearly $10,000 for breast cancer research during a special football game several months ago and inspired classmates to get involved.

Cold temperatures didn't keep his friends and family from gathering on Kyle's doorstep for the High 5 surprise Friday morning.

Kathy Howa nominated him for the award. She said, "Kyle showed so much integrity. No matter the consequence, he stands out so strong for something outside of football, more important in life."

Kyle's mother is a breast cancer survivor, and Kyle is not shy about the color pink.

For the special game between Cottonwood and Cyprus High, pink gloves were donated, along with pink tape. "They didn't wear pink jerseys but pinked out everywhere else," Howa said. "The boys were so proud and stood out for a good cause."

"They weren't shy at all," she added. "They were so proud out there, and did such a good job."

Kyle explained, "I really wanted to help my mom and anyone who has to battle that disease or any other disease, and bring a community together. I couldn't have done it without the help of all my friends and family."

He said the experience taught him that a community can bond together, "and do something bigger than football and anything else."
