WEST VALLEY CITY -- A homeowner called police while hiding in a closet as an intruder apparently robbed his home.

According to West Valley City police, the homeowner spotted an unfamiliar car in front of his home near 4700 West and 3100 South around 8 a.m. Friday. He then heard someone inside his home, ran for the closet and called 911.

Police arrived and stopped the suspect, 19-year-old Thad Strader, as he was trying to drive away from the home.

Investigators found the homeowner's wallet, iPod and other electronics inside Strader's car.

Police believe Strader may be responsible for several other burglaries. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for burglary, theft and assault.
