WENDOVER -- Law enforcement from three agencies arrested 34 people near the Utah-Nevada border during a DUI checkpoint on Interstate 80 Friday night.
More than 40 officers participated in the operation, which kicked off Friday evening and continued into the early hours of Saturday morning. They stopped 516 vehicles in just over five hours.
Authorities arrested 12 drivers on alcohol-related charges and 22 more for driving under the influence of drugs.
The Utah Highway Patrol said the purpose of the checkpoint was to warn the public of the dangers of driving while intoxicated with Halloween coming up soon.
