SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah Gov. Gary Herbert has nominated J. Frederic Voros Jr. to serve as a judge on the seven-member Utah Court of Appeals.

Voros has served as chief of the criminal appeals division for the Utah Attorney General's Office since 1999. Before that, he spent eight years as an assistant AG in the division. He also has experience in general civil litigation and was formally general counsel with a national communications firm and to Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho.

Voros got his undergraduate and law degrees from Brigham Young University.

Herbert's appointment is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
