SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- State courts in Utah are now accepting online payments for traffic and criminal fines.

So far, 27 district courthouses and one justice court are participating in the new program. Juvenile courts are not currently offering the service.

Dan Becker, the court system administrator, says the online payment program should make it more convenient and alleviate lines at courthouse counters.

Three courthouses along the Wasatch Front -- those in Salt Lake City, Provo and Orem -- have been trying the program for the last two months.

Those looking to pay online should go to www.utcourts.gov/payments and need to have their case or citation number and a credit card.
