PROVO CANYON -- The speed limit on U.S. Highway 189 in Provo Canyon was permanently changed to 55 miles per hour from Canyon View Park to the Deer Creek State Park entrance.

There had been two different speed zone, 50 mph and 60 mph between the mouth of the canyon and the entrance to the Deer Creek State Park.

After a speed limit study and consulting with the Utah Highway Patrol and Wasatch County Sheriff's Office, UDOT determined one consistent speed limit would reduce confusion among drivers and allow for better enforcement.

Beginning Monday, Sept. 21 UDOT will install new signs alerting motorists of the new speed limit.
